Some of my best childhood memories are of Christmastime — being warm and cosy at home with my family, decorating our tree, baking holiday treats, wrapping presents, eating hearty and delicious meals, seeing dear friends and family. Since having my daughter, my Christmas spirit has been renewed! At two and a half, this is the first year that she really gets it. She inquires about Santa Claus and her presents. She is in love with our Christmas tree with all its delicate and glittery baubles. She is enchanted by the twinkly lights and the promise of reindeers on rooftops.
My father told me that his grandfather used to sneak outside on the eve of Christmas and ring an antique set of sleigh bells. My father and his cousins, nestled snugly in their beds, would know that Santa had arrived. My father would read to me each Christmas Eve, ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas:
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer.
The season of advent begins in just a few days — the anticipation and preparation for the celebration of Christ’s birth. Christmas is also a celebration of a new season, a time to hibernate with loved ones, to bestow gifts, and most importantly, to be thankful for all of the blessings.
And here is some Christmas spirit - from me to you:
