Although the weather here in Malta may think otherwise (it is mid October and I am still swimming), my favourite season is upon us. For me, the beginning of autumn is marked not only by a change of weather, but by a certain feeling — the lazy and whimsical days of summer have past and a new chapter begins. Children go back to school, work suddenly becomes more serious, everything shifts and preparations for winter begin.
I have always loved this time of year. I am, and have always been a paperphile— I am addicted to all things paper — books, diaries, notebooks, cards, wrapping. Even as a young girl, I remember the particular thrill of back-to-school shopping — new blank notebooks with thick creamy paper, sharpened pencils, and new cases. This time of year has always been my personal version of New Year. It is a time when I can start fresh, change direction, and focus on what lies ahead.
Besides new notebooks and fresh weather, this time of year brings my favourite season for fashion. Cosy knit sweaters, oversized scarves, suede boots, fedoras — to name just a few of my fall fashion staples. And although I do not often discuss fashion here, it is undeniably an important part of my life. I have always been of the mind that how you present yourself to the world on the outside is telling of who you are on the inside. This has nothing to do with money, but with style. French fashion designer, Yves Saint Laurent, once said: “Style fades, but fashion is eternal.”
An easy to way to update your fall wardrobe without rebuilding it, is to add some hats and scarves to existing outfits. Scarves can freshen up any look and a woman in the right hat is always sexy and mysterious. And so, in the interest of providing some fashion inspiration for the forthcoming season, as well as indulge my preference for beautiful clothes and accessories, I give you some picks for what to wear in the coming months.
